These rugs are made from the natural and viable material of bamboo fiber therefore are sustainable. These are eco-friendly, long-lasting, and budget-friendly choice. Bamboo is an excellent addition to your home because it is resistant to mold and water. Because of the shiny surface, they give a luxurious feel to a space. Proper maintenance will increase its lifespan. Let’s uncover its cleaning steps.

Five Steps to Clean Bamboo Rug

Follow these simple five steps to clean this type of rug.

Step 1: Remove Loose Debris

Remove Loose Debris

Before cleaning, prepare your rug by removing loose debris and dust. You can easily remove it with just a little shake because bamboo doesn’t have fibers that cling together. There is no need for a broomstick to remove dust from it. You can remove dust without the help of a floor brush. If it is challenging to shake due to its large size, you can use a vacuum cleaner, but avoiding a beater brush to prevent it from scratching. It has a protective coating made from natural fiber like alpaca wool. Please be sure that the dust particles have been removed properly before going towards the next step.

Step 2: Wipe the Surface

Wipe the Surface

Use a wet cloth to wipe the rug surface or you can pour a water and vinegar solution on the rug surfae and use a dry cloth for cleaning purpose. For a stained rug, a mixture of vinegar is recommended as it is a suitable cleaning agent.

Step 3: Prepare Cleaning Mixture

Prepare Cleaning Mixture

There are various products that you can choose to clean a rug made from natural fiber. A professional carpet cleaner would be a good choice, but before applying directly to the exposed area, try to use it in the hidden part; if it doesn’t cause any damage, apply it to the surface.

But cleaning a silk rug made from natural fiber requires solutions that won’t affect its surface and longevity. You can also make a solution of a mild detergent and water in a spray bottle or a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water. Apply this solution to the surface. An alternative explanation of detergent, lukewarm water, and baking soda could also be an excellent choice to clean the surface.

Step 4: Rinse The Rug

Rinse The Rug

After applying the solution to the rug, take water and rinse the solution present on the surface. As it is water resistant, you can rinse it with water, but a prolonged water exposure could cause damage to its backing, which is made from natural fiber.

Step 5: Let it Dry

Now that you have rinsed it with water let it dry by placing it outdoors (not in sunlight) or directly under a ceiling fan. It has a property to dry out quickly. After it's drying, you can put it wherever you want.

Maintenance Tips

Proper maintenance can increase the longevity of these bamboo material arearugs. Follow the tips below:

Prevent from Direct Sunlight

Keep your rug away from direct exposure to sunlight. It could have a damaging effect. The constant sunlight exposure could cause discoloration, thus reducing its beauty and elegance.

Protect from High Traffic Areas

It is recommended not to place these rugs in area of high traffic like entryways or hallways because it is not as resilient as other materials and can wear out soon due to high foot traffic.

Remove Stains

Bamboo is indeed resistant to stains because of the polyurethane layering, but it is better to remove the stains soon to make it look clean and fresh. You can use DIY methods for its cleaning purpose, (water, vinegar, and baking soda is highly recommended).

Prevent from heat

It is resistant to heat, but constant exposure to bamboo rugs to heat could decrease its lifespan and damage it. So, keep it protected from heat.

Protect from extreme weather

Mostly, people use these rugs for the outdoor area, but during extreme weather conditions like rain, keep them protected by keeping them inside. Place it back in the area when the weather becomes normal.

Conclusion

Bamboo rug is an environment-friendly choice. To ensure its longevity, keep it clean using a mild cleaning solution like detergent and water, vinegar, or baking soda. Keep it away from sunlight, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, clean the stain immediately, and avoid excessive heat. These tips will enhance the longevity of your rug and will protect it from regular cleaning.
